Mark Parsons
SVP Business Development DHL Supply Chain UK
Mark will be presenting on the challenges, and solutions experienced by DHL Supply Chain UK. Mark is the Senior Vice President Business Development for DHL Supply Chain UK, Ireland & Nordics and leads the Value Chain Group, designed to drive strategic growth and enhance the customers experience with DHL.
Mark has spent over 25 years in a variety of supply chain roles within the Logistics, Manufacturing, Retail and Consulting industries working in the US, Europe and Australia.
Mark’s experience has majored supply chain development (re-design, cost down, growth planning etc) aligning logistics and business strategy, business development and start up management. Mark graduated from Keele University in 1985 with a BA (Hons) in International Relations

Dan Newton, MBCP, MBCI
Senior Program Manager Lead
Direct from Microsoft HQ in Seattle USA we welcome Dan Newton presenting on Microsoft’s approach to risk management of the supply chain.
Dan Newton is the Senior Program Manager Lead overseeing the Risk Management Office for the Microsoft Server & Tools organization. He holds both the Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) and Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) certifications. Dan has been engaged in the risk management, business continuity and disaster recovery industry for twenty years in various capacities including consulting, risk assessments, impact analysis, program and vendor management, exercise and event coordination, plan development and maintenance as well as crisis management and remediation.
He previously served as the Chair of the DRI International Course Development & Maintenance Committee, Vice-Chair, and Chair of the Education Commission and currently holds the position of Strategic Advisor for DRII. Dan is the co-founder, charter member and past president of the ACP Arkansas Chapter. Additionally, he served on the ACP Corporate Board and received the ACP MVP award two years in a row. Dan is currently a member of InfraGard and the NFPA 1600 Technical Committee.

Dr Robert MacFarlane
Assistant Director, Research and Doctrine
Dr Robert MacFarlane is Assistant Director, Research and Doctrine, in the Civil Contingencies Secretariat, Cabinet Office. He is responsible for a range of matters including research strategy and the programme of Central Government Emergency Response Training.
Prior to joining the Cabinet Office Rob worked as a research manager and senior lecturer in higher education and as a secondee to the Home Office and visiting fellow at the EPC. He holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and a Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Durham, focusing on information management, situational awareness and crisis decision making at the strategic level.
Dr MacFarlane will be presenting on his latest research into Crisis Management.

Andy Tomkinson, MBCI
Olympic Park incident management & business continuity, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Possibly one of the most highly respected and knowledgeable Business Continuity consultants Andy will be presenting on the aftermath of the London Games 2012, what went well and possibly not so well, where he is one of the key people responsible for its Business Continuity planning. A huge task as you may imagine.
Andy delivers business continuity, incident management and disaster recovery across all sectors. His extensive credentials are based upon experiences in business continuity management since retiring after 10 years service in the Royal Artillery where he saw active service in Northern Ireland, the Gulf War and Bosnia during 10 years as an Army Officer.


Suzanne Fribbins
EMEA Product Marketing Manager - Risk
Suzanne Fribbins is BSI’s EMEA Product Marketing Manager – Risk. The risk portfolio comprises the international Standard for Information Security ISO/IEC 27001, the British Standard for Health and Safety BS OHSAS 18001, the British Standard for Business Continuity Management BS 25999 and the International Standard for IT Service Management ISO/IEC 20000. Suzanne’s role involves positioning and driving demand for the assessment and certification product range within the risk portfolio, with responsibility for defining and delivering the product marketing plan, maintaining an in-depth understanding of the industry sector and market, and close liaison and communication with clients and other key stakeholders.
Introduction to ISO 22301: Key aspects of the ISO
Having now been approved for publication by ISO member countries, ISO 22301, the new international standard for business continuity management, will be officially launched in the coming months, replacing the existing BS 25999-2.
ISO 22301 builds on the good practice captured in BS 25999, taking into account the evolution of the discipline within the immediate five years. The first standard to adopt a new high level format, ISO 22301 will be written using a 10 clause structure, which is to become the new common format for management system standards.
This session will include:
- A summary of the ISO FDIS 22301:2012
- Structure of the standard
- Key differences between BS 25999 and ISO 22301
- The new demands of the standard in relation to Suppliers i.e. that an evaluation of critical suppliers must have been undertaken
- New terms and definitions to both BCM and ISO
- Anticipated publication timeline
- Transitioning from BS 25999 to the new international standard

Neal Courtney, FBCI, BSc, MSc, CDir FIoD
Involved in the Disaster recovery and business continuity sector for over 21 years, working with companies both internationally and within the domestic market.
His experience spans most industry sectors, a wide range of physical incident types whether these have affected major global corporates or single site local operations. He specialises in the application and implementation of this “real” hands-on experience and knowledge to increase awareness, preparedness and resilience for operational management.
His senior management roles, includes several years as Managing Director of Belfor UK. Most recently he has been in Thailand following the devastating flooding in October 2011 assisting significant manufacturers recover and re-establish their supply chain capability.
His presentation synopsis: "Inundation of the supply chain – Flooding in Bangkok 2011"
The flooding in Thailand in October 2011 had a devastating effect on many of the companies based around Bangkok, causing cessation of business and interruption of supply chains. Using the experience from the presenter’s time as part of a major disaster restoration company's front-line response team, this presentation will provide a practical understanding and insight into how such an event impacts on business continuity and how different companies have approached the disruption to their businesses. It will examine some of the specific issues arising, including initial response mitigation and assessment, the lead up to events and what the effects of the disaster could be in the future providing an international perspective for continuity planners based on real experiences.
